NAFDAC sachet water registration (Nigeria) — the buyer-side process
Nigerian sachet water can be legally marketed only after receiving a NAFDAC registration number on the packaging. The fee schedule and exact procedures are available in NAFDAC’s published Guidelines for Registration of Food and Water Manufactured Products – NA the agency’s published application guide, we often encounter quotes that differ significantly, this is the document we always share with our Nigerian clients.
- CAC Business registration – registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission of the manufacturing business (range 10,000-40,000 based on share capital).
- Trademark registration – registration of branding and label with the Nigerian Trademark Office (average range: 25,000-50,000).
- NAFDAC application package – submit registration form, source water analysis, factory layout, GMP self-assessment.
- NAFDAC on-site inspection and sampling – on- site review of sanitation practices and equipment, testing of water source.
- Laboratory testing – microbiology, heavy metals, pH, and turbidity (standard NIS 554:2007 drinking water).
- Registration fee – Sachet water: 30,000 + 5% VAT = 31,500. Bottled water registration fee is higher.
- Approval and registration certificate validity duration: 3-6 months for initial registration, 6-8 weeks for renewals.
